June 1st 2009 - Hash #951-ish Fenyõgyöngye

Hare: Baldrick
Scribe: Incredible Hulk

Baldrick's long one

A hot Sunday morning brought a good group of Hashers out at the usual meeting point, many of the regulars, 3 visitors from Amsterdam HHH and a brace of visiting Canadian virgins (Haggis made them cum). The gathering occupied itself chatting and taking photos while our Hare Baldrick dragged Run by Battery to the supermarket for essential liquid nourishment for Hashers. Eventually Baldrick appeared to join his co-hare (Titty-Tata) and the group and with whistle and shouting eventually got about half the group to board a bus for the run starting point, the remaining 10 took to the 2 available cars and set off in convoy.

Soon the cars were heading north and up into the Buda hills, it was warm enough to need the air conditioning for the hot passengers. On we sped, past the caves and on up to the bus terminal stop at Fenyõgyöngye where there was parking for us. Had the bus already arrived? Rabies No, only after quite a wait as the clouds moved in and sprinkled us with warm rain, but it soon past by and the bus arrived, as did arrived on his bike.

So after booking a table in the nearby resto Baldrick explained the flour markings and everyone set off, strangely Rabies decided to bring his bike, more of this later. The trail went straight up the nearest hill, this was hard on the Amsterdam hashers, the slope was more that they see! It was not that easy for Rabies and his bike either. The first check was almost wiped out (by weather, pigs or passing ramblers), so without the hare we would not have found it, we hoped it was not all going to be like this. The false trails were found, and Ptwang, Jaws and others headed off with plenty of “OnOn’s” through the forest, on and up. The subsequent checks were all in good condition, they were pretty well set, holding back the FRBs and for the first few, even the walkers kept up. But with the longer sections up into the forest, the first few runners got further ahead.

For some of the sections, the path was almost flat, so Rabies was able to mount up and pedal easily past the runners. But sometimes the slope was too much, especially when the climb got steep in the rock slopes above the air field. The FRBs rested and enjoyed the views at the top for a while and the other “runners” made it up the slope (nobody could run up that), even Rabies managed to get his bike up to the top, the FRBs did wonder if they should go help him, but the idea soon past. The river looked impressive in spite of the low cloud across the city. Onwards, flour blobs were sought, but they were not readily found up here, fortunately we knew we were going to a beer stop, and in the forest covered hills, there is only one place that could be, so despite the lack of blobs, the pack soon found trail and were again climbing up hill, over the brow of the hill and down to the little bar-resto.

The big umbrellas outside over the tables and benches were just what we needed, the runners settled down to some beers and the walkers soon arrived. At that point the Dutch weather arrived, so we were pleased to be under the brollies. A few small snacks were bought (bread and dripping with red onions – a staple Hungarian snack) and a basket of bread left over on the next table with a pot of good hot paprika paste were acquired, which made everyone happy. The rain got heavier, and stared dropping down between the gaps above us, so most people headed inside – the warm air had gone by this time, the temperature had gone down a long way, so the usual moaning started and coats were found to keep the moaning levels down.

The group sat and chatted for a while until the rain eased off a bit, then we all set off for the relatively short trot down the hill to the circle, a nice easy run. At the bottom, Incredible hopped in his car to go back to taxi the trailing walkers in the rain, so with a couple of trips, everyone was down and ready for the circle. The circle was run by the visiting RA and many rewards given for virgins, offences and any excuse possible until the beer supply was almost gone. Then across the road to the resto and a good meal enjoyed by all from the extensive menu. Thanks Hares- you did a great job

May 10th 2009 - Hash # - Budakaszi

Hares: Incredible Hulk and Bang Cock
Scribe BangCock

Sunday dawned bright and beautiful. If you don't like the weather we've been having you'd best move to England or Ireland or Oregon state (they're all about the same size) where it rains most of the time. We had enough hashers show up at Battyhany to start a baseball team. That's nine for those who don't know. The pack consisted of Virgins Elena originally from Bulgaria and Alexander originally from Russia. We also had Run by Batteries, Silent but Deadly, Bushy Pussy, Ten Minutes Late and Andras.

There was no hare for the day and we decided to go up to the area of Budakaszi and start from the parking lot next to the nuclear research center. Incredible Hulk and I, Bang Cock, bought beer and flour at the market before driving up there. (Ulli Buli and Hard Core wanted to be with us but they had car problems and had to arrange for repairs. Their company was missed.)

Arriving at the parking lot Hulk and I realized that the rest of the group was all walkers so it Justify Fullwould be an easy trail laying for us. Not a worry about getting caught. Cool!!! An easy time for the Hares!!!

We started the trail near the bus stop and went up the hill and took the first turn to the right. It was so nice out that there were many hikers out enjoying the day with us. After going up and over the top of the hill we came to a crossroads and decided to "take the road less traveled by". We laid a few arrows and went down another wide trail. There were even birds out, undoubtedly eating the berries off the wild cherry trees.

After a bit we thought these big paths are too tame so we followed a footpath branching off and from then on that is what we tried to do. I am sure the pack liked the branches brushing them on both sides while threading their way through the bush.

After about 45 minutes we started looking for paths that would lead us back towards the start and kept heading (HEAD....Who said Head???) that way. About this point we were on a fairly wide trail and were passed by three ladies on horseback and later by a gentleman with a collie. After a bit we came to an area where some serious tree clearing had been carried out. We could see the research center's roof-line not too far away so we knew we had been going in the right direction.

The path was going straight ahead but we bore off to the right and took the trail up through where the trees had been felled. This dead ended at the Center's wall so we backed up and set the trail to bear off to the right through the underbrush, marking trees as we went. By and by we saw a clear shot up to the wall and took the trail there. From that point it was follow the wall along two sides of the research center back to the road and up to the parking lot.

The timing worked out very well. Hulk and I had our beer and shortly thereafter the pack showed up after a pleasant walk in the woods. We had a nice circle and welcomed our two Virgins and also the hashers who were not at the hash the week before which was almost everyone. There were almost no "sinners", only two polluters and they were duly chastised. The only announcement was about the Salon Concert at Ari's this coming Thursday and we closed the circle. Most then went to the Jokai restaurant for a very good lunch and then back to B'pest.

Sept 23rd - Hash #866

Scribe: Incredible Hulk

Hashers met in the usual spot opposite the parliament building in brilliant sunshine under a blue sky. A fantastic day for being out in the Budapest countryside !

So where was everyone??? No Hare for the day, no GM (at home looking after his worn out pussy …… willow), no Baldrick, no Rabies, we didn't even have an Anus (Saint or otherwise). But we did have Run By Battery, Giving Head, French Maid, Haggis, Wet Blanket, a recovering Cheesy Balls (unable to do what his right hand is for) and Incredible Hulk, plus a good bevy of No-Names and Virgins.

We were too many for the 2 cars, so all headed for the end of the bus 11 route. Incredible, Cheesy Balls and his young virgin (he claims to be his Niece) were the only runners, so the 3 set off into the forest and set a flour train for the Walkers. The walkers got an easy trail to follow, along small paths, down the hill between some lovely old trees, eventually arriving at a view stop with a good vista over the valley. Then down into the valley on a suburban route, but at the bottom, back into the forest, along some small paths to avoid doubling back onto the track down, but the path got smaller and smaller, ending in the middle of a large area of stinging nettles.

After hunting around a bit, an exit was eventually found over some decorative piles of rubbish and through a wire fence, out onto a road. Flour blobs were set and the walkers complained it was too easy! (Wait for the next time then!). So onwards along the road, slowly uphill and eventually going right and up into the forest again, soon arriving back at the start. A nice stroll or jog on a wonderful day !

So back to the circle, with only one or 2 knowing the words of the songs, made it a tame affair. Virgins were christened, returners rewarded and the usual drinks spread around. Then most headed down the hill to a very nice resto, "Lugas" where the food was much enjoyed while sitting in the sunshine, especially the desserts which were good enough to give Erica several oral orgasms.

So – next week we hope for a good turn out, and hopefully a hare will be produced from the hat.

Blue Danube H3 Cruise 2007 - Esztergom

The Esztergom run went very well, the Danube level was just low enough to dock, although part of the planned trail was under water, we found a revised route OK through a rugby pitch (only to find they were playing when the run started!. They loved the run around the town, the outskirts with traditional wine cellars and up the hills (although some complained about the 'up'). Many said it was the best hash of the trip, so we think Budapest has done a good job.

The FRB trail took them up pretty high up for good views, only one got lost at the top (after stopping to leak, only to find everyone gone and the sneaky trail difficult to find . Best was the wine stop with a wooden barrel with 50L wine for the ~125 hashers. It all went (some as down-downs later in the circle). Sandor, the old guy who grew the grapes and made the wine seemed very proud with all the complements, and the little road which was totally blocked with the sweaty bodies had never been so busy. Most walkers and runners got to the wine stop in about 45 min as expected, but Haggis was 'sweeping' the slow walkers, including Bill who is 85, so they were somewhat late. But all eventually got their wine.

The beer not drunk Tuesday all went on Thursday, so almost everything we bought for the runners was consumed. Another 25 T-shirts went OK - I was hoping for more sales, but most hashers seemed to have so many T-shirts that they could not manage another one.

Sadly the Wolf became ill in Bp and needed a doctor - so rest and no alcohol for a while. Lisbet took him by car to the wine stop where he enjoyed the ambiance if not the wine. Wash & Blow lost something on the boat Tuesday, nobody admitted to anything so nothing was recovered for her. The circle was well run by Kingfisher, with a lot of good Hash amusement and plenty of beer. It was a sad moment when Haggis and Incredible were chucked off the boat before it left for Bratislava - but a very good day all round !

Hare: Run By Battery

Hash Gets Thrown Out Of Exclusive Restaurant – And Mama San's Ivories get tinkled!

The Hash met as usual opposite the parliament building where the local politicians spend their time working hard trying not to get caught being more dishonest or more corrupt than the other party. Unlike the Hashers who only think about sex and beer (not necessarily in that order).

Our hare for the day, Run-by-Battery had set the trail in a quiet part of the wooded hills where collecting the protected snow-drop flowers in spring is a common practice. This time of year, different sorts of flowers can be found (see Hulk's photos). So the 2 runners and 6 walkers set off in 3 cars, and eventually, around the route of the 157 bus we got to the starting place to park cars. St Anus found a nice flat bit one the dented part of Martin's X-Type Jag (a red one of course, more frequently known a Martin's Pussy Magnet) – so a camera was balanced to take a shot of the happy Hashers before they set off (some of them returned less happy than at the start  - but more of that later).

We were warned, that due to lack of time and only one hare, there were a very limited number of checks…. We did not know just how limited this was…. But we were told there were no false trails, so this gave a clue..

After a short distance on tarmac road, we were in the forest, a very nice bit of forest, with some of the tallest trees of the Buda hills – a very beautiful part. Strange that the name for the area is Devil's Crack (or Devil's Valley, or something like that…). A few blobs of flour told us we were on trail as the runners left the yacking walkers far behind, the trail ran beside an almost dry river bed, but by the look of the trees and shattered branches in the bottom, when it rains heavily this is not a good place to be (that must explain the presence of the Devil here).

After a kilometre or so, the trail went over the river-bed and up the other side, to a rocky cliff face with a romantic old cave, which probably had housed Neolithic cave men a few thousand years ago. The current residents seemed to be slightly less evolved than those hunter-gatherers – with an old dog kennel, a primitive chimney and some very grubby old clothes hanging up to dry. The cave was not quite as beautiful as it might be, so we decided not to wander in to look at the majestic interior, partly from fear of being chewed by some mangy hound (one hasher with her legs up recovering from canine wounds is enough!). Rabies living up to his name for avoiding dogs (probably preferring pussies) so we went around the front and up the steep slope, until it became obvious that we were not going to get anywhere this way (and there was no flour anyhow) so we went back down towards the river and back to the main path to continue along the blobs of flour.

It was one of the nicest areas in the Buda hills – really very peaceful with hardly any other walkers even on one of the nicest days of the year – it was good to be under the shade of these huge trees on such a hot day.

Then the blobs went over the river again and then up, up, up and further up. It was obvious that those wimpy walkers were never going to come up this way. They normally chicken out at anything as steep as this (unless there is beer at the top). So the brave2 runners and running hare went on up to the top of one of the highest peaks in the Buda hills. Stopping near the top for some photos and to shout down to the walkers who seemed to be walking backwards and forwards in a disorganised way, as if they were lost. But the walkers saw us, so they changed direction and headed our way.

We knew they were not going to climb more than a few meters of the hill before retiring injured or finding some excuse to give up, so there was no point waiting for them. So the runners continued running along the paths, with the intention of running down the other side of the hill, after the flour trail sort of died…. We thought that at the worst, we can get a bus back to the staring point with the cars, so there was no problem stretching out and having a good run. After a while, a wooden sign post told us that we had several choices, one of them had an ideogram (diagram for stupid people) telling us that a bus route was to the right – so that was what we needed – even Hashers understood this – so right it was. The path ran down, down, down (good for hashers!) – Rabies ran down slalom style, obviously missing the snow this time of year.

This was a good running section in spite of the lack of flour, eventually coming out into civilisation, and seeing a bus about to leave at the end of the road, just too far to get to it before it left. But, our fearless runners tracked down a local sales-man beside his car, who told us that if we took this road to the right, then took a left, then a right, then a straight on, and left and right where possible etc. , we would end up where we started. Rabies seemed to have some understanding of these instructions, so off we set.. It was not so difficult, and after asking once or twice more we neared our starting point. A hundred meters or so away from the start we found a nice little traditional beer & food establishment – useful for later we thought!

So reaching the cars, Rabies decided he needed a swim and personal services before the evening concert, so he left us to find a bus, an the hare and Hulk wandered off to find the walkers. About a kilometre or so into the woods, the walkers were found –the first ones were smiling and happy with a strenuous but satisfying walk. The other walkers approached with a little black cloud floating over the heads, on arrival, threats of slow death and ceremonial funerals for the hare were issued – probably because she had told them the walk was a nice flat one, but the walkers, led by St Anus, followed the runners up the hill ! As an innocent bystander – I would guess that St Anus was the one to blame as he was the one who took the others up the hill, but he seemed happy to leave the blame on Run by Battery (typical American).

Finally, after much debate, the hashers headed back to the cars, where the lack of beer prevented us having a circle… (a terrible crime for which some future punishment should be issued). A couple of Hashers, the Dyke and Martin, decided not to stop, and head back to town. All said sad good-byes to the Dyke, as she and BB will be leaving Budapest for good .

The remaining hashers wandered up the road to the little restaurant found by the runners. The 6 of us settled at a table up on the terrace in the sunshine, expecting a menu etc to arrive. But this was not forthcoming, a slightly large, out of breath lady came to take our drinks order, but refused to discuss food, that being the job of "the boss" who we realised after was her husband. So we ordered drinks, and then the chef (the owner) came up with food for the only 2 other people in the establishment. The food looked very good, with large portions. He told us there was no menu, we needed to go down to stand in the road again, to see his sign for today – so down most of us went. This was when it got tough…

Nora and Run-by-Battery did not want a big dinner se they asked to share a single meal. This was greeted with disbelief and horror by the chef – this was not permissible… Furthermore, it was far to difficult to cook 6 meals if we ordered different things from the menu. So we were instructed to decide which meal we wanted, and he would make 6 the same. Unfortunately for him, we were hashers, and making a management decision to eat the same thing was beyond us. He did not appreciate the honest comments made, so he refused to even serve us beer !!!! This was too much for hashers – so after telling him where he might stick his restaurant, we headed back to the town centre. [We need to go back one day for a laugh!]. So back to Moscow Ter, to the favourite hole of St Anus, we were soon happily drinking end eating Goulash and other delicacies. Ending a happy outing for the active hashers… but not the end of the day!

At 18:00 was a Bartok piano concert by nobody but out own Mama-san, in the house of Bartok himself… A lovely house (the American lady in front of us asked if Bartok was still living there – fortunately the answer was NO since spectral beings tend to put me off…) . Several Hashers attended the concert (many arriving late and having to creep in quietly). But all had a great time, we were universal in our praise for Mama San, who's digits were dashing up and down the ivories in an incredible way, a magnificent performance, so those who missed it really missed a fantastic event!

Congratulations Mama San – you were fantastic !!!

So ended another Hasher's Day – despite the lack of a circle, and not even a little rendition of Sweet Chariot, it was a day to remember! All those armchair Hashers who read this should know that shifting their back-ends down to Batthyany Ter Sunday at 11:30 will give you more than some exercise and a beer or two! So Get On Down!

OnOn!
